In the Year 2017, the Riga-Gauja region will bear the title of European Region of Gastronomy. A special concept, called "Wild at Palate", will be the guide for you to get to know the diverse dining out pleasure to be found in Riga, Sigulda, Cesis and Valmiera.
This region one of the official souvenirs is Ramkalni candied fruits and berries. Well known because of the taste, excellent quality, good features like vitamins and origin of ingredients. Some of our ingredients are harvested in this Gauja river region.
In Spring every Latvian wait for rhubarb that grows in the backyard garden to show up its first leaves. Only the strongest ones are able to enjoy fresh rhubarb without sugar. Our grandmas made them candied for us and it was a goody that delighted all year.
In summer our gardens are full of blooming bushes and trees. Quince is well known as a beauty bush but its fruits in Latvia are even more popular - we call them the Northern Lemon. They are rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants. Candied quince is an excellent way how to take up these goodies whenever you want.
